Arabica Roasters' Gourmet Blends

Coffee blends are combinations of coffees. The art of blending is in being able to take several excellent coffee varietals and blend them together in a fashion that shows off each varietals?strengths and masks any weaknesses they might have. Here you will find several of our favorite blends.

Italian Roma II Traditional Espresso Blend

Named after the city where espresso is not just a drink, but a way of life. The Roma II is a genuine Italian Espresso blend with a taste that will make you feel like you're at the Trevi Fountain with Sophia Loren.

Characteristics: Our Roma II is an excellent full-bodied, sweet espresso just begging to be shot by a well-trained hand.

Italian Espresso Blend

This blend is an excellent espresso blend made with Arabica grown coffees.

Wait a minute' What exactly is an espresso blend? We often hear this question, and it is a good one. In order to answer it properly we think its important to define exactly, what is espresso. Espresso is a way to brew coffee. The exact definition, according to Dr. Andrea Illy (from his book Espresso Coffee, chapter 2 "Defintition of Espresso") is:

"Italian espresso is a small cup of concentrated brew prepared on request by extraction of ground roasted coffee beans with hot water under pressure for a defined short time. The range of parameters is:

Ground coffee portion 6.5±1.5g
Water temperature 90±5°C
Inlet water pressure 9±2 bar
Production time 30±5 seconds

So espresso coffee is not a roast style or color, as many companies would have you believe, nor is it a particular blend. An espresso is ANY COFFEE that is made using the method described above. It can be made with any kind of coffee. The real question should be what is a good espresso coffee blend? The answer to that is: a good espresso blend is any blend that when made using the correct process, produces a good shot of espresso. So what makes a good espresso? In general, because espresso is such a concentrated drink, most consumers prefer it to have a good full body and a low acidity, it should be sweet and smooth and a pleasure to drink!

And just to set the record straight, espresso has about 40% LESS caffeine per cup than brewed coffee made with the same beans. It's that simple. Don't be fooled by the hype.

Italian Organic Espresso Blend

This blend is an excellent espresso blend made with 100% organically grown coffees.

Mocha Java Blend

Because we use Ethiopian Mocha, the oldest coffee varietal in the world, and Indonesian Java, the second oldest commercially produced coffee in the world, this blend is probably the oldest blend in the world! Our Mocha Java blend preserves all the sweetness and chocolaty flavors from the Ethiopian and combines them with the fully body and rich earthyness of the Indonesian Java. This it a perenial favorite and is especially good made in a French Press or a Home Coffee Brewer.

Boiler House Blend

This coffee blend has a very special place in Arabica Roasters history. It was named after the original coffee roasting facility we occupied on the 3rd floor of a Boiler House in Beijing. It was about the hottest place you can imagine in the summer months with a boiler underneath us, the sun beating down on the roof above us, and a coffee roaster in front of us. Even though we moved out of the boiler house facility years ago, we keep the Boiler House Blend alive for three reasons: 1) to remind us of our past, 2) to honor my father who, went to Purdue University, is a true Boiler Maker, and who loves dark roast coffee, and 3) because it's an excellent dark roast blend! This coffee is has a deep rich flavor and an excellent bitter sweet aftertaste. If you're a dark roast fan, we think you'll thoroughly enjoy this blend.

Fresh Cup Brand minimum order of 1 box which is 20 bags (5kg)

Fresh cup brand coffee is a medium high body, medium acidity coffee blend with a smooth mouth-feel and a predominant dark chocolate aftertaste. Arabica Roasters take great pride in the coffees we produce, so we are very picky when we select the coffees that go into our Fresh Cup brand coffee. We also use a traditional European style "small batch" coffee roaster to roast the coffees which allows us to control exactly the time and temperature of each batch of coffee we roast.

Because each type of coffee roasts differently, we roast each varietal separately and only blend them after roasting to ensure that each coffee has been roasted specifically to its own level of perfection. When the roasting and blending is finished we test cup every batch of our coffee and if we aren't satisfied, we won't sell it. That means that if you are buying this coffee, we have already tasted part of the batch of coffee that is in the bag and liked it ourselves.

We go through all of this effort to ensure that our customers get the best cup of coffee possible. Our Fresh Cup brand coffee is perfect for anyone looking for a great cup of coffee, and is especially well suited to be prepared as Espresso and Cappuccino, or brewed at home with any type of household brewing equipment.

*Morning Cup Brand minimum order of 1 box which is 20 bags (5kg)

Morning Cup is a well balanced, medium bodied coffee with a pleasant nutty taste perfectly suited for brewed coffee. Morning Cup is composed of 100% high-grown, carefully selected and screened Arabica coffee. Like our Fresh Cup brand, Morning Cup is roasted in a traditional European small-batch roaster. This traditional roasting ensures the full development of the coffee's aroma and flavor. After roasting, the coffees are carefully blended, enhancing and balancing the flavor characteristics of the individual coffees. Morning Cup is roasted in Beijng and delivered fresh from the roaster.

The Morning Cup brand is designed and priced to suit our high volume customers such as hotels and restaurants. It is perfect for the places where the coffee is brewed in large volumes prior to consumption. As these areas tend to be more cost sensitive, it is priced as some of the lowest priced coffees in the Beijing/Tianjin area.

Chinese Green Coffee

Although better known for its teas, China has made great strides in the last several years towards producing great quality Arabica coffees. The result is that China is now able to produce several grades of coffee including several very nice varietals that are specialty grade.

Yunnan province, bordering on Tibet, Myanmar, Laos and Vietnam, is home to over 40 Chinese minorities. Yunnan is a very mountainous area and is an ideal coffee growing region, and the finest Chinese coffees are grown here at an average height of over 1000 meters. The mountains are actually the southern extension of the Himalayas and are beautiful. The Bao Shan area is known by WWII veterans as one of the Flying Tiger抯 air bases. The runway was the river bank (literally, not even paved) that runs through the valley formed at the foot of the mountains where the coffee trees now grow.
