Making it Right

Now that you have some great coffee beans, the next step is to turn it into a great cup of coffee. Here are few tips to help you brew a better cup. The most important thing you should remember is always use appropriately ground coffee and fresh water.

  • Grind your coffee just before your going to use it. This will ensure freshness. But if you buy your coffee already ground, store it in an airtight container. Grind the coffee as fine as you can make it without losing any through the holes in the filter of whatever brewing method you are using. Never grind it to a powder. We are happy to grind the coffee for you to suit your preparation method.
  • Use at least 10 grams or 1 standard coffee measure per 175ml (5-6 oz.) cup. You may want to use more, but we strongly suggest you never use less. Coffee brewed strong tastes better. If you brew with hard water or if you drink your coffee with milk, you should be especially careful to brew strong. If you feel that you are sensitive to caffeine, adjust the caffeine content of your coffee by adding some caffeine-free beans.
  • Keep your coffee maker clean, and rinse it with hot water before you brew.
  • Use fresh, cold water, as free of impurities and alkaline as possible.
  • Brew with hot water, as opposed to lukewarm or boiling water, which means bringing the water to a boil and then waiting a minute or two before brewing.
