Coffee brewed this way is rich, full-bodied and fully extracted.
Use 10 grams of coffee for each 175ml (about 6 ounces) cup of coffee. Put coarse-to-medium ground coffee in the cylinder, pour water just short of boiling over it, and insert the plunger in the top of the cylinder without pushing it down. Let the coffee soak for 3 to 4 minutes, then push the plunger through the coffee, clarifying it and forcing the grounds to the bottom of the pot. Make sure you do not use too much water (a good way to do this is to use the cup you will be drinking from to pour as many cups of water as you are planning to drink). Adjust to suit personal taste.
